CVRD anuncia mega-investimento

US$ 59 bilhões Dinheiro será gasto até 2012, no maior plano já feito por uma mineiradora A Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (CVRD) fará investimentos de US$ 59 bilhões até 2012, sendo US$ 11 bilhões apenas para 2008, considerado o maior investimento feito por qualquer mineradora a nível mundial. A base desse vultuoso investimento será no minério de ferro e níquel de um lado, e na logística e energia do outro, alavancando os outros negócios da companhia. ?A proposta é ambiciosa e desafiadora, mas a empresa está preparada para isso?, garantiu o presidente da CVRD, Roger Agnelli. O anúncio foi feito na tarde de ontem, direto da Bolsa de Valores de Nova Yorque, após o tradicional CVRD Day, onde a empresa detalhou seu plano de investimentos para os próximos anos para investidores e analistas. É a sexta vez que a companhia realiza o evento na ?Big Apple?, considerado o centro econômico mundial. O DIÁRIO acompanhou a entrevista coletiva concedida pelo presidente Roger Agnelli, via webcast, pelo site da Vale (www.cvrd.com.br). Antes de apresentar números, o presidente da empresa fez questão de ressaltar o compromisso da empresa em tratar das comunidades onde opera, investindo no meio-ambiente local de forma responsável. Do total investido em 2008, R$ 1,4 bilhão serão utilizados em projetos de responsabilidade social e US$ 2,8 bilhões na área ambiental. ?Isso é estratégico para a empresa. Estamos entre as empresas no mundo que mais conserva o meio-ambiente, investindo em novas tecnologias para reduzir a emissão de CO2 das nossas locomotivas, utilizando o biodiesel, entre outras medidas. Estamos um passo à frente no que se refere à sustentabilidade social e ambiental. Isso é estratégico para nossa companhia?. Por trás da lógica do planejamento ambicioso de quase US$ 60 bilhões para os próximos cinco anos está o crescimento na produção de aço no mundo, o que vem demandando uma produção de minério de ferro cada vez maior. ?Temos vários contratos assinados com clientes e isso demandará aumento da nossa produção. Para isso vamos acelerar os investimentos em logística em ferrovias e portos?. Na área do níquel, Agnelli reforçou os investimentos feitos em Onça Puma, no Brasil; e de Goro, na Ilha de Nova Caledônia, na Polinésia, além de outros projetos no Canadá. Por outro lado, Roger ressaltou a determinação da Vale em reforçar sua liderança no mercado de minério de ferro mundial. ?Pretendemos chegar a uma produção de 450 milhões de toneladas em 2012, aliando aumento da produção e redução de custos?. O dirigente lembrou do custo crescente na exploração do minério, tendo em vista que as minas ficam cada vez mais fundas e as distâncias para transporte cada vez maiores. ?Com o novo investimento vamos reduzir esses custos?.
