London Mining obtém LA e investe em logística no Brasil

A London Mining registrou vendas de US$ 11,288 milhões nos nove primeiros meses do ano, crescimento de 62,8% em relação ao mesmo período de 2006. No 3º trimestre, o faturamento atingiu US$ 4,235 milhões no período, contra US$ 3,337 milhões do mesmo trimestre do último ano. A expansão de produção foi de 26,9% comparada com o mesmo período do ano anterior. O processamento de minério também aumentou nos primeiros nove meses de 2007, chegando à casa de 1,061 milhão de t, 28,7% a mais sobre as 824,7 mil t processadas no mesmo período de 2006. A London Mining obteve, em outubro, licença ambiental para a construção da nova usina de sinter feed. As obras estão dentro do investimento previsto de US$ 130 milhões que a companhia está realizando no Brasil, incluindo nesse montante a aquisição, em maio, da Minas Itatiaiuçu ? na região de Serra Azul, extremo oeste do Quadrilátero Ferrífero ? a atual London Mining Brasil. A usina processará e comercializará antigos estoques de rejeitos. Atualmente são recuperados apenas 30% do material que alimenta a usina (ROM), produzindo um granulado com cerca de 62% de teor de ferro. Os outros 70% são compostos de ?finos? a serem concentrados para produzir outros produtos (sinter feed e pellet feed). A produção também está sendo ampliada e deve atingir uma capacidade de 3,5 milhões de t/ano em um primeiro momento. Em uma segunda fase de expansão, na qual os investimentos ainda não foram dimensionados, essa produção poderá atingir 5 milhões de t/ano. Na área de logística, a London Mining pretende firmar acordos com parceiros logísticos para permitir a exportação de seus produtos, além de atender à crescente demanda de grandes siderúrgicas nacionais. Em agosto, a empresa firmou, com a Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional (CSN), memorando de entendimento para poder exportar seus produtos através do porto de Sepetiba (RJ). A London também estuda formação de consórcio para construção e exploração de um terminal de embarque de minério de ferro na baia de Itaguaí, também no Rio. O grupo também pretende construir um ramal ferroviário que facilite o acesso à sua jazida. Hoje, a London Mining Brasil está a 35 km a norte da ferrovia MRS e 55 km ao sul da FCA. A empresa contratou um consultor especializado em ferrovias para aprimorar estudo preliminar para a construção de 17 km de ferrovia que deve ligar o sistema MRS de ferrovias à ferrovia Belo Horizonte/São Paulo. O resultado é um projeto com reduzido impacto ambiental e redução de custos em cerca de US$ 13 milhões, ficando estimado em US$ 54 milhões. O próximo passo será um encontro com a MRS para elaborar um estudo de viabilidade e custos de uma segunda etapa de desenvolvimento logístico, que seria a extensão da linha da MRS até a mina da London Mining Brasil, que também beneficiaria outras mineradoras da região de Serra Azul.
