Vale inaugura novo pátio ferroviário em Minas Gerais

A Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (CVRD) investiu cerca de US$ 232 milhões na ampliação do pátio ferroviário de Costa Lacerda, da Estrada de Ferro Vitória a Minas (EFVM). Localizado no município de Santa Bárbara, Minas Gerais, torna-se o segundo maior pátio de formação de trens da América Latina, adequado para composições de até 320 vagões. A ampliação ocorreu em razão do aumento da demanda por transporte da mina de Brucutu, cuja capacidade de produção de minério de ferro gira em torno de 30 milhões de toneladas por ano. A obra também favorece o escoamento da produção das minas de Gongo Soco, Alegria, Timbopeba e Fábrica, até agora responsáveis por mais da metade do transporte de minério realizado pela Vitória a Minas. As obras de ampliação duraram cerca de dois anos e contemplaram a construção de duas áreas, uma exclusiva para trens de minério de ferro, e outra, por reforma de antigas linhas, agora destinada a trens de carga diversa, como madeira, combustível, calcário, grãos e produtos siderúrgicos. Durante a reforma, foram gerados 1100 empregos. O pátio para trens de minério de ferro possui cinco linhas ferroviárias, cada uma com aproximadamente sete quilômetros de extensão, que possibilitarão a formação e o desmembramento de trens para transporte de minério com até 320 vagões. Até o final do próximo ano, o pátio de Costa Lacerda receberá dois projetos adicionais: um moderno posto de abastecimento de locomotivas, dotado de instrumentos de última geração, inclusive para controles ambientais; e um novo sistema de sinalização, capaz de detectar o posicionamento dos trens.
