Anglo American investirá US$ 9,6 bi em MG até 2017

Menos de uma semana depois de anunciar a negociação entre a MMX Mineração e Metálicos e a Anglo American para aquisição do sistema MMX-Minas Rio, projeto de extração de minério de ferro em Conceição do Mato Dentro, que inclui o mineroduto para transporte da produção até o Rio de Janeiro, a mineradora anglo-africana já anunciou que pretende investir US$ 9,6 bilhões (cerca de R$ 17 bilhões) em Minas Gerais até 2017. O aporte equivale a 60% dos US$ 16 bilhões que a empresa estrangeira planeja investir no Brasil nos próximos dez anos com o objetivo de ampliar para 150 milhões de toneladas a produção de minério de ferro. Atingindo essa cifra, a Anglo American passa a deter 10% do mercado transoceânico, ante os 3% atuais, hoje nas mãos da Vale e da BHP Billiton.Os investimentos permitirão quase triplicar a produção até então prevista na mina de Conceição do Mato Dentro, Região Central do Estado, que é de 26,5 milhões de toneladas até 2011. Para atingir a meta desejada até 2017, a Anglo American precisaria chegar a 100 milhões de toneladas no sistema Minas Rio e no Amapá, também adquirido do grupo do empresário Eike Batista. Os outros 50 milhões viriam da mina africana de Kumba.Eike Batista e a presidente-executiva da Anglo American, Cynthia Carrol, estiveram ontem em Belo Horizonte para apresentar ao governador Aécio Neves o projeto de desmembramento da MMX e a atuação da mineradora anglo-africana em Conceição do Mato Dentro. ½Esse é um projeto estratégico para o desenvolvimento de Minas Gerais, que agrega renda e emprego, e, por isso, o Estado será parceiro na sua implementação?, ressalta Aécio Neves.Apesar da venda da MMX-Minas Rio, Eike Batista continua com ativos em Minas Gerais, por meio das minas adquiridas em Serra Azul -AVG e Minerminas. A primeira produz, atualmente, 5 milhões de toneladas de minério, com perspectivas de chegar a 15 milhões nos próximos três anos. E o empresário não descarta a possibilidade de novas aquisições. ½O mundo precisa de minério, e onde houver oportunidades, a MMX estará?, enfatiza Batista.MMX quer assumir trecho de ferrovia da ValeEnquanto a Anglo American vai concentrar esforços na expansão da mina de Conceição do Mato Dentro, que sequer saiu do papel, Eike Batista não quer perder de vista as oportunidades de investimentos em logística, segmento que, segundo ele, já é o grande gargalo para ampliar e baratear o escoamento da produção brasileira. Ele está em negociações com a Ferrovia Centro-Atlântica (FCA), controlada pela Vale, para recuperar o trecho entre Campos, no Rio de Janeiro, e Miguel Burnier, distrito de Ouro Preto.A ferrovia de 650 quilômetros de extensão está desativada e, em alguns locais, teve os trilhos roubados. O investimento necessário para recondicionar a via é estimado em R$ 2,5 bilhões. ½Pode ser feito pela Vale para utilização de outras empresas, que pagariam por isso?, exemplifica Batista. Com a recuperação desse trecho, a MMX investiria cerca de US$ 2 bilhões na construção de um ramal ligando Campos ao Porto de Açu, no litoral norte do Rio de Janeiro, que está sendo construído pela MMX. ½Isso ajudaria Minas a ter um novo sistema de escoamento, atendendo à Fiat, Iveco e outras empresas?, afirma o empresário. Caso as negociações avancem, a ferrovia pode entrar em operação em três anos, mesmo prazo para conclusão do Porto de Açu.
