Vale investirá US$ 8 bilhões no Maranhão nos próximos 5 anos

Destaque será dado à logística, com a construção do píer 4 de Ponta da Madeira A Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (CVRD) investirá US$ 8 bilhões no Maranhão até 2012, tendo como uma das principais obras a construção do píer 4 de Ponta da Madeira. O volume de recursos destinado ao estado representa 15% do total de US$ 59 bilhões que a empresa investirá no país e no exterior nos próximos cinco anos. O plano de investimentos da CVRD no Maranhão, anunciado ontem pelo diretor de Logística Norte da CVRD, Zenaldo Oliveira, será executado a partir de 2008, com aplicação inicial de US$ 986 milhões. Em 2009, o volume de investimentos será duplicado, estando programado US$ 1,973 bilhão. Para 2010, estão previstos US$ 2,062 bilhões e, para os anos de 2011 e 2012, os valores de US$ 1,947 bilhão e US$ 1,047 bilhão, respectivamente. Esses investimentos se concentrarão basicamente em mineração e logística, para atender ao crescimento da produção de minério no Sistema Norte, que saltará das atuais 100 milhões de toneladas/ano para 225 milhões de toneladas (Mt) até 2012. Justamente para atender a esse aumento de capacidade é que a CVRD traçou e definiu um plano de investimentos para os próximos cinco anos que contempla a Mina de Carajás, a ferrovia e o Terminal Marítimo de Ponta da Madeira. ?Trata-se de um investimento bastante significativo e estratégico para o projeto de expansão da companhia, pois contemplará todo o sistema de forma integrada – mina, ferrovia e porto?, disse Zenaldo Oliveira, ao destacar que, no caso do Maranhão, deverão ser gerados mais de 58 mil empregos diretos e indiretos nos próximos cinco anos. Investimentos que começaram a se avolumar a partir do Projeto 100 Milhões de Toneladas, no qual a Vale vem ampliando sua capacidade operacional com expansões e aquisição de equipamentos.
Por exemplo, na área da Estrada de Ferro Carajás (EFC), a empresa vem investindo em ampliação de pátios de estocagem, em terminais ferroviários, na aquisição de locomotivas e vagões. Já a partir do próximo ano, para atender ao Projeto 225 Milhões de Toneladas, terá início o projeto de duplicação de 546 quilômetros, dos 892 quilômetros da Ferrovia Carajás. Até 2012, haverá um acréscimo de mais 10 mil vagões (passará a 20 mil vagões). O total de locomotivas deverá chegar a 300 (hoje, são 183).
