Vale investirá US$ 8 bilhões no Maranhão

O diretor-presidente da Vale, Roger Agnelli, reuniu em um almoço, ontem, na sede da Federação das Indústrias do Rio de Janeiro (Firjan), jornalistas de todo o país para divulgar o balanço das ações da companhia este ano nas áreas de mineração, logística, meio ambiente e responsabilidade social em todo o país. Roger Agnelli informou que, nos próximos cinco anos, a empresa investirá US$ 58,9 bilhões, sendo 77% desse recurso no Brasil e 23% no exterior. O Maranhão deverá ficar com US$ 8 bilhões desse total (ver matéria correlata).?A Vale é hoje a empresa que detém o maior programa de investimentos. É a empresa privada que mais investe no Brasil?, reforçou.Dos investimentos públicos e privados em portos e ferrovias previstos para este ano no país, a Vale responde por 65% do total. São US$ 784 milhões em investimentos. Para 2008 está previsto US$ 1,8 bilhão.Entre 2003 e 2007, a Vale adquiriu US$ 722 milhões em novos vagões. Foram 16 mil vagões, dos quais 92% fabricados no Brasil, o que reativou a indústria de equipamentos ferroviários.Na área ferroviária, Roger Agnelli destacou ainda a obtenção da concessão do trecho de 720 km da Ferrovia Norte-Sul, de Açailândia (MA) até Palmas (TO), como um avanço importante das parcerias público-privada (PPP).Nos 30 anos de concessão da ferrovia, a Vale irá investir US$ 2 bilhões, o que inclui a construção de 361 km adicionais, favorecendo o escoamento de carga geral para exportação, principalmente grãos.A construção adicional da Ferrovia Norte-Sul poderá contemplar um ramal até Balsas, projeto que seria fundamental para o escoamento da produção de grãos na região, especialmente de soja.
